Swedish Genealogy I have added a list of sites that I considered useful in my reasearch. This list is by no means complete and again I urge you to share sites that have helped you out. Swedish Genealogy Sites Here are sites that I have found useful in researching my Swedish line. DIS - Computer Genealogy Society of Sweden - A wonderful site that has been indexing many of the Swedish Church books. Found some great articles, and many clues of my family. People here are helpful. SweGGate - is full of useful information. Rotter - The Federation of Swedish Genealogical Societies and their genealogy portal. This is a rich source of Swedish genealogical information. Hans Hogmans Slaktforsking - Hans has made a wonderful site that is a must if you are doing Swedish research. Many of the topics have been translated to English Commercial Sites I have never been a fan of most commercial sites. Why? The information I needed was not there for the most part. Anyway here are some of the commercial sites out there. Genline.com - This has been by far the most useful site that I have come across for Swedish research. Simply put, it is many of the church books of 16th to 20th century Sweden on line. This is the only commercial site that I endorse because of the wealth of information it has. Arkion - In the event you don't know the parish that your ancestors came from and if they were living in Sweden during the year of 1890, you may look into the Arkion database, www.arkion.se, which provides search capability of the 1890 census. Part of the 1870, 1880 and 1900 census are also available. This site is mostly in Swedish but has a small English section. You can do a basic search in the 1890 census for free - choose "Sök in 1890." Ancestry.com - I have never really used this site. If anyone wants to comment on it, feel free! LDS Familysearch is a great index to use for research. |
